My wife hired Brooks Plumbing to investigate an odor coming from our small bathroom. Two plumbers came to our residence and spent about an hour. I had just arrived home from work and asked the plumber what the problem was and was told it could be a number of things. He stated they replaced the wax ring and a couple closet bolts on the toilet just in case that was the issue. I asked how much we owed them and he stated they really didn't do much. He said they'd just send an invoice. We received an invoice for $237.25. I called Brooks Plumbing to see if there was some kind of mistake and was told the invoice was correct and they charge $100 per hour in labor costs. I had not budgeted for that and told them I'd pay it when I could. Two and a half months went by and I finally reached a point where I could address the bill. But before I could Brooks Plumbing was already trying to track me down at my part-time employer. When I reported to work I was told I needed to contact them. This past Saturday an old man in a white Honda Pilot trespassed on my property as my property has easily visible signage at the front entrance stating no trespassing. He asked if I was Robert and he was here to collect a debt for $237.25. I paid the debt at that time since I did owe it. However, he clearly trespassed on my property and I should have called the police department. I strongly encourage anyone who needs plumbing services to truly shop around and ask how you will be charged. There is no way we would have hired these plumbers if we knew we would be charged $100 per hour from the time they left their store in Vilas. By the way, the odor problem was not resolved.
