Appropriate Designs is a residential green design and build firm located in Northeastern Connecticut. Established by Richard L. Sherman in 1996.
Richard L. Sherman, the owner and chief designer at Appropriate Designs has been involved in the construction trades as craftsman and designer since 1975. He has worked as a carpenter, mason and general contractor as well as designer and construction manager on passive solar and earth sheltered residences. Appropriate Designs is the distinguished winner of the 2010-2011 Connecticut Zero Energy Challenge (ZEC). Richard Sherman designed and built the award-winning Ashford home of Cindy Moeckel and Larry Grasso, voted the most energy efficient building envelope in the Ct Zero Energy Challenge contest for houses built in 2010.
