They're butchers, not jewelers.

My fiancee and I brought two rings to Azena's to have some work done. We were drawn in initially by it being local to us and having mostly good reviews.

The two rings are a wedding band and an engagement ring - Needless to say, they're of huge sentimental value to us. The wedding band I had custom made for her overseas in Platinum and Opal. Unfortunately, it was about half a size too large. The engagement ring, similarly, needed to be sized down a little bit, and we wanted to replace the stone in it with an Opal, so they'd be a matching set.

We brought both rings to them thinking that it'd be a mostly trivial job, and thinking that Azena's was reputable and trustworthy. A week later, when the wedding band was returned to us, the first thing I noticed was that the shank, where they had resized the ring, was thinned significantly, poorly polished, and even out of round. My first impression was that they hadn't finished working on it! When I expressed my concern to the shopkeeper, he quickly became impatient, insisting it was perfectly fine, and even that it had been misshapen like that when we brought the ring to them. His tone was cut short when one of the seven Opals in the ring fell out right in front of him, cracked in two pieces. He apologized for it, and said that he would replace it with one exactly like it. Foolishly, I went along with it, and came back a week later to discover the ring had been damaged even further. The replacement stone was an obvious mismatch to the other six, lacking the same play of fire and glow as them. It seemed like it was dead and lifeless between the others. The shank had been made even thinner, and was still unevenly polished. I expressed my concerns again to him, at which point he blew up, shaking with anger, throwing his hands up and yelling at me that there was nothing wrong with it, that I would always find something wrong with it, and again insisting that the shank was in the same condition we had brought it to him in - thin, poorly polished, and with obvious nicks and voids in the metal. This time, I wisened up and took the ring with me rather than leaving it with him to be butchered. I had a second jeweler look at it, who pointed out that not only was the resizing job obviously poorly done, but that the prongs holding the mismatching stone were flattened and damaged, and that they had actually glued it in place!

When I returned to insist that they take responsibility for the damage and asked that they pay for another jeweler to repair it, the shopkeeper became completely livid, yelling and screaming at me to "do whatever you want, take me to court, I'm not involved in this anymore!"

I calmly reiterated my request to him, and said that I don't want to bother with the headaches of court over a matter of a couple of hundred dollars to thicken and polish the shank and reshape the prongs to their original states (thankfully the original jeweler who had made us the ring is graciously sending us a replacement stone!), but I did let them know that I would not hesitate to leave negative reviews on them as far and wide as I could if they didn't take responsibility and make things right. At this point, his son threatened and screamed at us, "You want to make our lives miserable, we can make your lives miserable too!"

I'm not typically one who bothers to leave negative reviews, I understand that sometimes things go wrong and misunderstandings are had, but never in my life have I been so intensely disrespected and offended by a supposed professional. When I went back to look at their reviews more closely, I realized that the bulk of their positive ratings were merely for $5 watch batteries, and that several others had extremely animated and negative experiences with them damaging and destroying jewelry.

Please, avoid this business at all costs, save yourselves the heartache and extra expense of repairing their "work". They clearly don't know how to do proper work, nor can they amend the situation o
