Naseem Wahlah Fine Art: Installation art and painting
For most of my artistic career, my work has revolved around the color black. For me it is the purest form in which to communicate, other than it in relation to white. I have eliminated superfluous details, such as color, expressive brushwork, and curved/organic lines to limit my visual vocabulary to a minimal aesthetic. In doing so, I am able to speak on a fundamental level about form and space. I consider my work to be in reference to the works of various Minimalist Artists (e.g., Judd, Serra, Kelly, Turrell, Fontana) of the 1960's to present. Essentially I am creating a playful dialogue with those artists. In my painting on canvas, I continue that dialogue on a portable 3 dimensional object hence, eliminating the ephemeral quality of the work.
