Dr. Austin is originally from Greensboro, North Carolina. He is married to Laura and has two sons, Grayson and LaBruce.Dr. Austin graduated from North Carolina State University in 1969, with a B.S. degree in textile engineering. After graduation and before entering flight training, he worked as a project engineer for Allied ChemCorp. From 1969-1977 he was a pilot (A-4 jet aircraft) in the U. S. Navy and retired from the U. S. Navy (Reserve) in 1994. Prior to retiring from the Naval Reserve in 1994, Dr. Austin was selected to be the first Commanding Officer of the Naval Reserve Dental Unit in Pensacola, which provided dental services at both NAS Pensacola and the Naval Hospital and served two tours in that capacity.Dr. Austin continued his education at the University of Florida Dental School and graduated in 1981, with a Doctorate in Medical Dentistry. He then received his M.S. in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics from the University of Tennessee in 1983.Dr. Austin started his practice in Pensacola in 1983, where he continues practicing today. One of the most enjoyable parts of his orthodontic practice has been working with patients and parents in building beautiful smiles, and observing the improved self-confidence and enhanced self-esteem he sees in his patients as they go through treatment, both adolescents and adults alike!Dr. Austin is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Southern Association of Orthodontists, Florida Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association and constituent societies. He is also a member of Five Flags Rotary Club, Fiesta of Five Flags, various Mardi Gras and fiesta groups and Christ Episcopal Church. Dr. Austin enjoys tennis, boating, snow skiing, traveling and history.
