I am a silk artist; that is, I paint on silk and create wearable items such as scarves, shawls, jackets, kimonos. harem pants, vests. I also create pillows, wall hangings and other decorative objects primarily using silk but also incorporating other fabrics such as hemp, rayon or cotton. I use two types of techniques in my painting. One is what I call "color wash" where I simply use several colors of dye that blend on the fabric to make interesting patterns. The other is a technique called "serti" where I actually draw intricate designs directly on the fabric and then paint, sometimes embellishing with stamping, metallics, ribbon or lace. These may then be worked into wall hangings, pillows, scarves, shawls or pieced into jackets, vests or kimonos.
