Many people mistakenly believe that being non-profit means we get government funding. This is not the case however. Being non-profit allows people to donate items or money, those which they can write off on their taxes. Since we haven't gotten our non-profit designation, we haven't seen any large increase in donations. We still pay most expenses out of our salaries. We are committed to helping any horse we can, but the expenses and workload can be overwhelming, especially without any donations, that do not have to be generous in anyway to help. As with all animals, a great need is required for rescue of the abused, neglected, and abandoned. This includes retired racehorses, who overwhelmingly do not go to a carefree and pampered life after their careers, as many people mistakenly believe
