I recently moved to Flagstaff from Iowa City, IA, where I had a full private practice with children and adults, mostly undergrads and grad students.
We moved to be near one of our daughters and new grandbaby. I have decided to concentrate on adults, with a focus on anxiety, depression, childhood wounds, relationships with family or others, and grief--whether from death or other losses we have trouble giving ourselves permission to grieve. I am interested in the difference between the truer self and the effort it takes to maintain a false self. My training at Iowa City Hospice was so valuable in clarifying this grief lens. I believe that we humans are fragile creatures and that our internal struggles can be significantly improved through talk (insight), mindfulness and other self-soothing strategies, I am older and have experienced the many triggers that can lead one back quickly to earlier grief.
