Excellant Quality Builders

Todd Elder his brother and one additional carpenter framed a garage at my fathers house. This crew of carpenters is the most efficient quality orientated crew I have ever worked with. Todd told me it would take 3 days to complete the job it took 3 days.

Todd's brother is a mathematician and carpenter. He sat down with the plans, the first thing he did before a board was cut was take squaring measurements to determine if the newly poured concrete slab was square. Unfortunately it was not.

I hired Metropolitan Concrete the owner left for a weeks vacation leaving his nephew in charge the nephew failed to square off his forms properly from the attached house. Todd was not responsible for the concrete work. When Todd and his crew took the squaring measurements learned the slab was 1 inch out of square. they took appropriate action to make sure that the garage framing was square.

This attached garage was a rebuild to an existing ranch home. My concern was that there be no line showing a difference in height when the new roof was Installed where the two structures were joining. Todd put me at ease the crew was accurate there was no height difference at all.

Each of the three 2x6 walls was built on site including the exterior sheathing and house wrap then lifted and bolted in place while held by Todd's truck mounted crane.

Todd owning his own crane made for a more efficient way to get the walls in place. The outside gable wall was two stories high at the peak for strength reasons Todd wanted the wall to be solid top to bottom rather then building a 8 foot wall and putting a gable end wall on top of it I agreed.

The length of the 2x6"s obviously get shorter going out from the peak as the wall has to join the one story front and back walls. Watching Todd and his crew mathematically lay out this wall square lines and cut every piece before assembly on the ground giving that each 2x6 gets shorter, then putting a top plate, sheathing and house wrap amazed me. This two story wall nailed together perfectly square ready for them to build the front and back walls.

For the roof I opted for conventional framing rather then using pre built trusses I was told this would be more accurate in not having a Join line show between the existing house and the garage when the new roof was installed.

Todd's brother sat down calculated the length of the 2x8 rafters including overhang and where they notched into the structured beam. Every single rafter piece was cut before the 2x8's were installed each and every 2x8 rafter fit perfect. I was worried when I saw the crew cutting the 2x8 rafters pieces all at one time. My mind was saying cut one piece and fit it to be sure before cutting all the lumber.

There was never a doubt in the minds of these guys that the mathematics, the notches and length measurements were accurate. I have to say this crew of carpenters was confident, deliberate and accurate every step of the way through the project. I cannot say enough about the skill and professionalism of this crew of carpenters. I took pictures of every step from tear down using Todd's crane to finish framing. I will be happy to email the pictures to anyone considering using these guys for a construction project.
