Business description
Dedicated to promoting moringa as a tool to mitigate malnutrition and deforestation in Nicaragua
FairLeaf’s co-founder, Kara West served as an agriculture and food security volunteer in Peace Corps Nicaragua. It was there in Nicaragua that the idea for Fairleaf was conceived. Kara and her husband Simon grew moringa in their own garden in order to make awesome moringa-peanut-pesto which they devoured nightly. During two years they spread moringa throughout their rural Nicaraguan community of Datanlí in family gardens and at school providing technical assistance and delicious moringa cooking classes. After their Peace Corps service was competed the couple moved to Oxford England to obtain Master’s degrees, Kara in International Environmental Relations.Whereas many companies are founded on their owners’ background in business, ours is underpinned by its owners’ background in grassroots development and environmental stewardship. Kara and Simon would love to see Moringa and Fairleaf’s mission expand throughout Latin America and eventually head to Africa.
