Milos Bar and Grill

Milo's Bar and Restaurant was located at 559 Lorimer Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This homey bar and neighborhood Italian restaurant has been closed now since around 2000. There forever, I remember going there for dinner in the early 1960's with my grandfather as a kid.Owned and run by Jerry and Fran Milo,and they lived upstairs. It was truly a retro throw-back to a different era. Small, cozy, with checkered tablecloths and an old jukebox in the corner . Fran was an elderly lady and waited on tab;es with Dolores,and Jerry was behind the tiny bar daily mixing drinks for the loyal neighborhood clientele for decades. Both Jerry and Fran are now long deceased and the place is a gay bar called The Metropolitan.The food was simple, nothing fancy, always fresh and very affordable. With mainstay Italian-American staples like spaghetti and meatballs, handmade pizzas, fried veal cutlets with huge and hand-cut french fries,capozelle; (broiled sheep's head), tripe; (cow's stomach lining in tomato sauce), broiled pork chops,fried shrimps, roasted chicken, simple salads and cold antipasto salads. Just simple homemade Italian-American favorites. I recall going there until around the year 1999 with my 97 year old grandmother for dinner on a Saturday night....it was a family tradition for decades. Sadly, it is now long gone and a place like this was a veritable "time-capsule" from the 1950's and can never be replaced !
