Provides support, education and advocacy for families, friends and individuals affected by mental illness. Open to all reidents of the Washington area
Our Help Line and free, walk-in Weekly Support Group Meetings help family members, friend and persons recovering from mental illness relate their struggles in a caring environment. No referral or appointment or membership is necessary to participate. Free Family-to-Family Education classes, forums, conferences, a quarterly newsletter inform our members and the public on issues related to mental illness. Nami Stigma Busters alerts our members and the public to inaccurate and demeaning depictions of persons with mental illness in the media. Resources for people experiencing mental illness and their families are fragmented and grossly inadequate. Through NAMI DC, family members, friend and persons with mental illness can advocate on all levels for better services and treatment.
