Business description
Dr. Stephen Geller provides podiatric services in Phoenix, Arizona.
Stephen Geller was born and raised in a small New Jersey town. Being from a small town, football, basketball, and baseball were the usual sports. As the youngest child, Steve never developed much of a sense of convention. He began skiing at the age of two and was taking adult classes in Colorado by the time he was eight. Basketball was given up for wrestling and baseball for throwing javelin in track and field. In high school the athletic trainer for football took Steve under his wing convincing him that fixing players was more fun than being a player who got hurt. This was Dr. Geller’s first exposure to sports medicine. With aspirations of becoming an Olympic skier, Stephen Geller attended the University of Colorado, Boulder. His calling to medicine ultimately got the best of his love for skiing. In his first year of college Steve gave up skiing to concentrate on his studies for medical school and he never looked back. In choosing a medical school it was his roots in sports medicine that made him choose Podiatry. He attended the California College of Podiatric Medicine, in San Francisco, where he graduated with honors. Upon completing his medical degree, Dr. Geller was the second class of podiatric medical residents to train as general medicine and surgery interns in San Francisco. After 3 years of intense post graduate training Phoenix became home.Within 5 years of private practice Stephen Geller, DPM was double board certified in primary podiatric medicine and podiatric surgery. Within 7 years he was appointed the director of the podiatric medical residency program at Phoenix Baptist Hospital and Medical Center. One year later he was well established on the national lecture circuit as an expert in wound healing and reconstructive surgery.Gradually the residency program at Phoenix Baptist Hospital was changed from one resident to two and from two years to three years. Quickly outgrowing this small community hospital the residency program was moved to Maricopa Medical Center. It was here, at the largest teaching hospital in Maricopa County that Dr. Geller was able to train residents as he himself had been trained. Currently the first year podiatric medical residents function as first year general surgery interns at Maricopa Medical Center. This has been recognized by the American Podiatric Medical Association as a significant advance in the training of podiatrists in this country.Dr. Geller is also a past-president of the Arizona Podiatric Medica
