Do not let your car fall into the hands of T&D Towing or T&D Auto Body. You will absolutely regret it. My daughter was driving my car when it was rear-ended in Hempsted NY on March 8, 2016. T&D Towing showed up to tow the car. The next day, my wife and daughter went to their shop in Glen Cove to retrieve my daughter’s personal effects. They were told by owner Tony Douso that they needed to sign some forms before being granted access to the car. Taking advantage of their vulnerability and lack of experience, Tony slipped work authorization form across the desk. The next day, I contacted Tony to get the car moved to Great Neck Collision – a shop with which we had some experience and was recommended by our insurance company. Tony informed me that in order to release the car, I would have to personally deliver a bank check or cash in the amount of $988.46. I asked how towing could cost so much and he told me that work had already started. He also warned me that if I moved the car to another body shop, the insurance would not cover his work. Taking incredibly bad advice from the Geico adjuster, I left the car with T&D.
The insurance estimate was a little over $9000.00 with a 15 day estimated repair time. When questioned about this, Tony was quick to inform me that the 15 days was work days, not calendar days. To make a very long and painful story short – It was two months to the day before the car was finally completed. During this time, there were many promises of possible completion dates or call backs with more information. All broken. In fact, in mid-April, during three phone calls over a four day period, I got the exact same story – the car was coming off the bench today and going into priming.
It is inconceivable that an experienced and competent auto body shop could be so completely in the dark about how long it would take to complete repairs. My experience with T&D leads me to draw two possible conclusions. They are either incompetent or dishonest. I can see no other viable alternative and both of my possible conclusions should be taken as warnings to not let your car fall into the hands of T&D. You will likely be as sorry as I am for not paying the $988 to get my car to a reputable shop when I had the chance.
