He conceived the idea for The Pet Sitters over a beer with a friend back in 1988, and has been running the business ever since as an alternative to kennels for people who prefer in-home care for their pets. He employs a small staff of pet-loving helpers.Mr. Astleford was raised in Eagan, Minnesota, and graduated from Burnsville High School in 1980. He received a B.A. degree in English from Hope College in Holland, Michigan in 1984. The following year he moved to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and co-founded a successful cleaning service, which he managed until 1988. He then returned home to Eagan to start his business, The Pet Sitters.
