US Post Office

On July 19, 2022 at around 9:30 AM I arrived at the post office with a concern. I received a letter from an attorney by certified mail. When I retrieved the letter from my mail box, the green return receipt card was missing. I did no sign for this letter. This concerned me since an unknown person signed my name without my permission in a legal matter. I relayed my concern to this unknown female employee. She was not wearing a name tag so I asked her name. I wanted to establish that I returned the letter unopened. She immediately became defensive. I explained that my intentions were only to document the letter was returned unopened. She became aggressive. At first she offered to show me the signature, then she barked I could view it online. I do not think my situation was complicated, and could have been handled with a minimum of effort. The mail is a protected service, and I was within my rights to question this breech of privacy. This attorney will receive a return receipt with a signature other than mine but with my name on the return address. This letter is a legal statement that is incorrect. My right to refuse the letter was denied by someone in the post office, as it was delivered with the green return receipt attached. Either the postal worker dropped the letter in my mailbox without the green card attached or THEY signed my name. Both scenarios are unacceptable. I was then greeted by an aggressive, hostile and poorly trained employee who added to my anxiety. The goes beyond poor service. We trust the post office to be ethical. We trust the post office to honor our privacy and behave in an ethical manner. Unfortunately, I guess careless and unprofessional behavior complements aggressive, rude and completely unhelpful employees. Sad.
