Working Families United Inc.] understands how important working families are to their communities and the businesses who employee them.Working Families United Inc. is a christian non-profit organization with working families exclusively in mind.Our mission is to prevent homelessness among working families in America. To empower working families with resources that provide a hand up not a hand out. To unite working families, businesses, churches, and communities these families find and live in solutions for life.Did you know that someone in your family, workplace or congregation could be homeless? Over one million evictions were filed in America in 2011. And with the requirements to lease changing so drastically, this number is on the rise. Working middle class families is the (new) hidden face of homelessness.The Working Poor Project reported that nearly 1 in 3 working families in the United States, despite their hardwork are struggling to meet basic needs.Working families are comprised of workers who are the backbone of our economy. Construction workers, aircraft workers, retail workers, hospitality workers, teachers, healthcare workers, janitorial workers, fast food workers, those in skilled and unskilled positions just to name a few.Caught in an economy where the cost of living is steadily on the rise, working families need help. Most families do not have the financial education and discipline to meet the economic challenges before them.However, irresponsibility is not always the cause, loss of a job, job doesn't pay enough, death of a spouse, foreclosure, (stop when I get down your street) bankruptcy, illness, high cost of utilities and groceries are just some of the reasons working families are struggling.Faced with these challenges, we are finding more and more working families homeless. Many living in hotels, doubled-up with family and friends, living in overcrowded housing.Working families are the new "unseen or hidden" face of homeless that is falling through the cracks. They make to much money to qualify for many welface or assistance programs. Or their credit is not good enough to qualify for loans.Leaving them seeking help from family, friends, churches, or payday loan companies. And when these options are no longer available - homelessness.Everyday we're seeing hardworking families that have been evicted or are on the brink of being evicted because they do not have the credit and/or rental history to obtain a new place.
